We want to acknowledge that our wedding celebration takes place on the homelands of the Skokomish people, who have lived on and stewarded these lands for thousands of years and continue to do so. The impacts of the theft and colonization of these lands are still felt today. We stand in solidarity for the continued sovereignty of the Skokomish tribe and for the fight against systemic oppression of native peoples across the Pacific Northwest.
The Skokomish people work to promote, for present and future generations, an independent, sovereign nation that preserves the traditional values, and treaty rights of the Twana people. You can learn more about the Skokomish Tribe at www.skokomish.org/. If you’d like to learn more about the history of the native peoples of this area, we recommend the book: Native Peoples of the Olympic Peninsula: Who We Are.
